2019 University of Rhode Island Rising Stars Program

I. Young Artist Division

Rules:

Classical Guitarists ages 19 and older are asked to submit a live performance video of under 10 minutes with two contrasting works. The recording can be submitted by Email  as a link to a YouTube video. The microphone and video camera must be placed between 8-10 feet directly in front of the performer.  Please announce your name and the pieces you will perform. There may be a break between pieces.

*There must be a minimum of 8 participants to run the competition.

 

II. High School Division

Rules:

​Classical Guitarists ages 14-18 are asked to submit a live performance video of under 10 minutes with two contrasting works. The recording can be submitted by Email as a link to a YouTube video. The microphone and video camera must be placed between 8-10 feet directly in front of the performer.  Please announce your name and the pieces you will perform. There may be a break between pieces. 

*There must be a minimum of 8 participants to run the competition.

 

Prize:

I. The Young Artist winner (1) will perform and teach at the 2020 edition of the URI Guitar Festival and give a community performance at the Portsmouth Public Library.  Value: $2000 concert fee plus a Kenny Hill Performance Series Guitar valued at $2400.

 

II. The High School Division winner (1) will receive a full scholarship to study at the 2020 edition of the URI Guitar Festival (including airfare) in addition to two 30 minute online lessons from members of the 2019 guest artist lineup.  

 

Jury Panel: 

5 URI Guitar Festival Guest Artists, EXCLUDING Artistic Director, Adam Levin. 

President of Jury: Scott Borg

Registration Fee: $40

Submission Deadline: March 15, 2019

Results: April 7, 2019 at URI Guitar Festival Final Performance. Artistic Director, Adam Levin, will announce the winners via Facebook Livestream and via email.

 

*All proceeds will fund scholarships for guitar student participation in the 2019 URI Guitar Festival.
