A Welcome From The Director

Festival Participants & Music Enthusiasts,

It brings me great pleasure to invite you to the 2019 edition of the University of Rhode Island Guitar Festival on April 5-7, 2019. Now in its fourth year, the festival continues to draw artists of international renown right here to the humble state of Rhode Island.  This year we will host artists from France (Gaelle Solal), Greece (Dimitris Kotranakis), Belgium (Maarten Stragier), Australia (Scott Borg), Russia (Grisha Goryachev), Vietnam (An Tran), the Netherlands (Robert Bekkers), and across the United States (Matthew Rohde, Eric Zillmer, Regina Campbell, Mark Davis, Josh Bell, David Veslocki).  As you can see, the guitar is truly a global sensation, cutting across cultural and geographic frontiers.  Building off of last year's success, we will host a second annual virtual Rising Star Program, which allows young guitarists the opportunity to

compete in a low-stress competition with their peers worldwide. The 2018 winner, An Tran, will be featured in concert this year at the festival.  World class artist will converge on campus for a power packed three-day festival. I want you to experience each artist's greatness first hand in concert, masterclass, workshop, and lecture. This festival is an educational platform for guitarists, musicians and enthusiasts alike. Who knows you might even run into your next friend at a concert or masterclass. Many of these artists are friends and colleagues whom I've grown up with or met on the road. They impress and inspire me continuously. I'm compelled to share their artistry with you. Join all of us for a weekend jam packed with live music, bonding, food, exchanging ideas and guitar education.

Warmly,
Adam Levin
